About This is Ohio
Jack Shuler wrote a book, This Is Ohio (Counterpoint, 2020), in which he depicts the helpers, the activists, and the frontline workers in the overdose crisis. It’s a celebration of the quietly heroic. He has an interest in applying this concept to a wider variety of subjects.
Doug Swift has been making documentaries and multimedia stories, such as 10,000 Acres and Breathe Free. He is now interested in exploring audio storytelling skills because of the immediacy the medium provides. He’s also interested in the small story, the quiet and meaningful moments in the lives of those that we general rush past in our day to day lives.
Together, Swift and Shuler have created the podcast This is Ohio. Each story is likely to be different from the one that preceded it, in subject matter and temperament. But hopefully all the stories will allow you to hear a human voice, someone you can empathize with. And care about. And connect to.

Ohio is a varied, diverse, and complex state. So are the people who live here. There’s a lot that divides us. What we need is more of what connects us. We hope you find that in these stories.
